Tea Education

Tea education is a pursuit of clarity. As a representative for the Global Japanese Tea Association, I provide a structured academic framework for those seeking to understand the technical complexities of Japanese tea.

This is an analytical space designed for professionals, hospitality partners, and dedicated enthusiasts who value factual precision, history, and the science of the leaf.

GJTea Certified Courses

In partnership with the Global Japanese Tea Association in Kyoto, I facilitate formal certification programs in Vancouver. Industry professionals develop these courses to provide a comprehensive understanding of Japanese tea:

  • The Foundation Course: History, soil chemistry, and processing methods.
  • The Intermediate Course: Cultivars, cupping protocols, and industry standards.
  • Format: Structured modules with a focus on objective evaluation.

Japanese Tea Foundation Course

A foundational exploration of history, cultivation, and production methods. This course includes hands-on experience in brewing and evaluating fifteen high-quality teas, while touching on the traditions of both Senchado and Chado.

The next enrollment will be announced in April. Learn more about this course.

Technical Workshops & Classes | Teakan

In collaboration with Teakan, I host focused workshops that break down the "how" and "why" of brewing. These sessions are highly interactive and specific, focusing on:

  • Comparative Tasting: Side-by-side cupping of regional styles.
  • Brewing Mechanics: Temperature control, leaf-to-water ratios, and vessel impact.
